On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day,31st May 2022, Department Of Public Health Dentistry and NSS unit, Navodaya Dental College organized a series of events with the theme “Tobacco a Threat To Environment- Protect The Environment” to create awareness among the public in Raichur about the ill effects of various forms of tobacco consumption.
The series of events started with “Walkathon”- a walking rally from NET campus to Central Bus Stand. The rally was flagged off by Dr.T Srinivas sir, Registrar NET in the presence of Dr.Girish katti, Principal NDC. The rally was addressed by Dr.Suresh Babu, Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry and the welcome speech was delivered by Dr.Girish katti, Principal NDC and Dr.T Srinivas sir, Registrar NET. About 250 undergraduate students, staffs and postgraduate students participated in the event with placards, banners and slogans. The rally ended at the Central Bus Stand Raichur at about 11:30 am followed by distribution of Snacks and health drinks among the participants.
The second event of the day was “Skit and Flash Mob” – a social awareness programme conducted by III yr BDS students of Navodaya Dental College at Central Bus Stand, Raichur . The programme was inaugurated by Mr.Ravi Kumar, Labour Welfare officer K.S.R.T.C Raichur Division and Mr. Debanand divisional controller traffic  K.S.R.T.C Raichur Division.
The final programme was a oral cancer screening camp and smoke analyzer camp was conducted by Department Of Public Health Dentistry, Oral medicine and Radiology and NSS unit. A total of 120 patients were screened and 20 pre-cancerous lesion cases were reported and referred to college for further treatment.
The programme ended at about 3:00 pm hoping that we have stepped forward to a Tobacco Free community.
