World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5th June and is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. It was first held in 1974, with the theme “Only One Earth” it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issue such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. In this context the NSS unit of Navodaya Dental College and Hospital celebrated the world environment day on 5th June 2022 with the theme “ONLY ONE EARTH”.This was also the slogan for the conference in 1974 at Stockholm.The main purpose was to spread awareness about the need to protect the environment and the ways to do it.
The day was flagged off by plantation drive in the campus, Dr. Girish katti, Principal, Navodaya Dental College spoke on the ways to protect environment by opening speech and insight to the importance of the day and plants in our life. Dr Zaheer Ahemd, Dr.Somanath Reddy.k, Dr. Kiran Kumar, Dr Ravi S. Patil, Dr.Chandrika Katti, Dr.Vanishree, Dr.Amrutha, Dr,Anila, Dr.Shilpa, Dr,. Sindhura, Dr Swapna and Dr Vardendra from staff and post graduate students of department of Public Health Dentistry as well as under graduate students were present.
Plantations were done around the campus by under graduate students from each year and Post graduate Students from Department of Public Health Dentistry. Around 20 plantations were done.
