Department of Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. It can also focus on modifying facial growth, known as dentofacial orthopedics.

Abnormal alignment of the teeth and jaws is common, nearly 30% of the population has malocclusions severe enough to benefit from orthodontic treatment. Treatment can take several months to a few years, it involves the use of dental braces and other appliances to slowly move the teeth and jaws around. If the malocclusion is very severe, jaw surgery may be used. Treatment is usually started before a person reaches adulthood since bones can more easily be moved around in children.

Our department primarily aims to improve the overall well being of the patient and cater to his/her needs and provide a holistic treatment which is satisfactory, ethical and cost effective.

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED

  • CAMPS:

    Screening camp was conducted at Vivekananda English medium high school, Raichur

  • Orthodontic awareness week from 22.10.2018 to 28.10.2018. The tagline for this programme is “Your smile is your strength and confidence”.As a part of which screening and awareness camps were conducted in different schools and colleges. We were successful in creating awareness about orthodontic treatment needs and identifying malocclusions about which was clearly explained to the students.
  • Conducted the best poster and video competitions among the students of Navodaya Dental College.
  • Visited Navodaya Central School, Government Polytechnic College, Vidhyanidhi P.U College, Government ITI College, S.C.A.B Law College and screened around 800 number of students. We found 475 students with malocclusions and total percentage of malocclusions in Raichur is  found to be around 60%.
